Hannah’s Hope Fund Supports Clinical Trials for GAN

A resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, Danny J. Mannix has served as vice president and chief operating officer of Kemp & Associates since 1986. Along with his operational responsibilities with the firm, Danny J. Mannix supports Kemp & Associate’s robust charitable efforts.

Kemp & Associates has made significant donations to various Salk Lake City non-profits, including Hannah’s Hope, which aims to initiate a clinical trial focused on children with giant axonal neuropathy (GAN). An inherited condition characterized by abnormally large and dysfunctional axons, GAN can be understood as a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that affects children. Symptoms appear early in childhood and generally include difficulty walking, clumsiness, or muscle weakness. Later, children may lose sensation in their limbs and experience seizures.

Hannah’s Hope has helped fund various projects, including the first in-human AAV9 viral vector clinical trial, conducted at the National Institutes of Health. Targeting gene delivery to the central nervous system, the trial has shown potential for successful treatment of various neurological disorders.
